Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi crash death

On May 19, 2024, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had to make an emergency landing in East Azerbaijan province because of bad weather. The helicopter was on its way to the city of Tabriz but landed near Jolfa in a mountainous area. Along with President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials were on board

The helicopter was part of a group, with the other helicopters landing safely. Rescue teams were sent to the area to find the passengers, but their efforts were slowed down by thick fog and rain. Initial reports mentioned that some contact had been made with people on board, but it was unclear how everyone was doing as the search continued.
